A traffic shift on Poplar Road at the Interstate 85 bridge that was scheduled to take place today had actually already occurred by 5 p.m. Thursday. Both lanes were shifted to the north, to make room for crews to do work in preparation for construction of a new bridge. Westbound traffic was shifted to what was the shoulder of the lane. Because Poplar will become a four-lane at the interstate, with the new interchange, a new bridge will be build. Half of the new bridge will be built, and traffic will be moved onto the new bridge, said Tod Handley, Coweta’s director of Transportation and Engineering. Then the old bridge will be demolished and the new bridge will be widened.
