Crews were busy with utility relocation for the McIntosh Parkway project Wednesday. East Washington Street will be widened and improved, and a new road will be built heading towards Greison Trail. A roundabout is planned for the intersection of Greison Trail and McIntosh Parkway, and the parkway will become four lanes once it passes Grieson, and will intersect with an existing section in Ashley Park. Grading and storm drain and culvert installation is taking place between Greison Trail and Ashley Park, and utilities must be moved along East Washington to make room for the improved roadway. The current utility work is moving water and sewer lines. The city of Newnan is currently working out details with Georgia Power for relocation of the power poles, said Michael Klahr, Newnan Public Works director.
First United Methodist Church
Bob McKoon, left, and Charlotte Harvey admire the piano bench cushion in the chapel at First United Methodist Church in downtown Newnan. The cushion is one of several stitched by First Methodist members to beautify the historic chapel. Harvey stitched the bench cushion to honor McKoon, who has been part of church music and many other aspects of life at First Methodist for decades. See story, page xx.
